About

C.V. was born into a godly missionary family in South India. At the age of ten, he accepted Christ as his Savior and Lord, and by the age of fifteen, he had already begun preaching. After completing his high school studies and theological education, C.V. moved to Mizoram in North East India, where he served as a high school teacher until 1968.

During this time, the well-known Indian missionary Bhakt Singh challenged and inspired young C.V. to commit himself fully to the Lord’s service. Responding to God’s call, he resigned from his teaching position. For the next 30 years, C.V. and his wife faithfully ministered in North East India, preaching the Word of God among various tribal communities.

Between 1965 and 1980, the message of the New Birth and the Assurance of Salvation was seldom preached among the nominal Christian denominations in that region. God greatly used C.V. to proclaim this Gospel to tribes such as the Hmar, Vaiphei, Paite, Gangte, Simte, and Kuki. In spite of opposition from formal churches and liberal theologians, he stood firm in Biblical counseling, leading many precious souls to Christ.

Through his ministry, God brought revival among denominations including the Independent Church of India, Manipur Christian Organization, Evangelical Synod of the Gangte people, Thadou Baptist Association, Evangelical Christian Association, and the New Testament Baptist Churches of the Simte tribe. These years witnessed a great harvest of souls, and the Lord used Dr. John to inspire and lead these denominations in pioneering evangelism and church planting. The fruit of that revival continues today in the ongoing mission work of these churches and tribes.

Dr. C.V. often speaks of the rich Christian heritage he received by God’s grace. He spent much of his childhood in the home of his grandfather, C.P. Varghese, who was affectionately called “the walking Bible.” Under his grandfather’s loving care, John developed the habit of reading four chapters of Scripture daily, completing the Bible once every year. By the age of ten, he had read the Bible three times and memorized over 200 verses.

His father, C.V. George, was a distinguished Bible scholar and a respected Christian apologist. He planted churches, authored books, preached at conferences, taught in Bible colleges, and served as the President of Trivandrum Bible College until the Lord called him home at the age of 93. Reflecting on his family’s influence, C.V. has often testified: “My grandfather and my father had the greatest influence on my life. They are my role models. I thank my God for allowing me to be born and raised in a blessed Christian missionary home.”

Brother John was raised in the Brethren Assemblies at Ezhumattoor and Punthala in Kerala. He later served as one of the elders at Bethany Assembly, Bible Bhavan, New Delhi, until 1997. At present, he continues to serve as an elder and teacher at Ebenezer Brethren Church in Bangalore, India, and travels widely as an evangelist with the blessing of his local assembly.

Brother C.V. is conservative in doctrine yet non-denominational in his evangelistic efforts. When asked how this balance is possible, he answers: “On fundamentals, UNITY. On doubtful things, LIBERTY. And in all things, CHARITY.”

With a special burden to care for orphans and raise them as future church planters, missionaries, and pastors, C.V. serves as the Regional Administrator for Kidstown International (www.kidstown.org).

C.V. and his wife, Lali, are blessed with two daughters, both of whom live in the United States with their husbands and children.
